900 kW Project
The project was started in 2008 and enables ChapDrive to test a 900 kW wind turbine equipped with a prototype ChapDrive hydraulic transmission and ChapDrive variable speed control.
The project builds on the results achieved on the ChapDrive 225 kW tests and is the next step in the up-scaling and verification of the technology to commercial size.
The test turbine is a NM52 – 900 kW turbine equipped with ChapDrive hydraulic transmission and ChapDrive variable speed control.
The turbine was rebuild and erected in 2008 and modified in the first quarter of 2009. Field test with the turbine started in June 2009 and the test and verification programme will continue throughout 2009 and 2010 to verify power curve, reliability and simulation models.
The project has been awarded NOK 5.4 million (EUR 0.6 million) in support from Enova. For more information see press release from Enova (link).
